Torbjørn Bekken graduated from the National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in 1946 and was soon recruited by the progressive furniture and interior design company Rastad & Relling Tegnekontor, where he worked for most of his career. His designs are recognised for their technical precision, attention to detail, and elegant simplicity.

The Evja table is defined by its long, uninterrupted curve, flowing seamlessly from the edge of the tabletop toward the legs. The legs gradually narrow as they approach the floor, creating a graceful, lightweight appearance reminiscent of a ballerina delicately balancing on the surface.
